Origin: This site began as a PhD project exploring Arabic knowledge transmission in medieval Europe.

Current purpose: Repurposed as a personal academic tool for manuscript annotation and visualization.

Legal compliance: All manuscript images are embedded directly from the Bodleian Libraries under CC‑BY‑NC 4.0.

About Me

I am a researcher focused on medieval manuscript studies, with particular interest in the transmission of Arabic scientific knowledge to Latin Europe.

This platform allows me to combine close reading of manuscript texts with spatial and temporal visualization of their contexts.

Technical Details

Architecture: Static HTML/CSS/JavaScript website with no backend.

Viewer: Uses the Bodleian Libraries' official embed for manuscript images, ensuring copyright compliance.

Annotations: Personal notes are stored locally in the browser (localStorage).

Map & Timeline: Adapted from the original PhD project using Leaflet and custom timeline libraries.

Data: Manuscript metadata is drawn from TEI‑XML descriptions and IIIF manifests.

All manuscript images are displayed via the Bodleian Libraries' Digital Bodleian platform under a Creative Commons Attribution‑NonCommercial 4.0 International licence (CC‑BY‑NC 4.0).
